New Entry Requirements and Quanatine Measures for Entry into Japan

Japan recently revised its border control measures in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, to be implemented starting 01 March 2022 to allow entry of the following eligible persons:

  1. Foreign nationals newly entering Japan for a short-term stay (less than three months) for purposes including business and employment
  2. Foreign nationals newly entering Japan for a long-term stay (including employment, technical interns, and students) and have receiving organizations for supervision located in Japan.

Prior to application for visa, the receiving organization in Japan is required to register with the Entrants, Returnees Follow-up System (ERFS) overseen by the Ministry of Health,

Labour, and Welfare the entrant’s information for the issuance of a Certificate of Completion of  Registration.

Other requirements for border control in Japan are as follows:

  1. All persons who wish to enter Japan need to submit negative RT-PCR test result conducted within 72 hours prior to departure from the country of stay.
  2. All entrants are required to submit “Written Pledge”, “Questionnaire” and download the “MySOS” application to their cellphone.
